Many believe there is some rule book when it comes to finding the love of your life? The premise that there is a correct path to happiness is as bogus as looking at your next-door neighbor's relationship and saying, "I wish I could find what they have."

People who think this way are not looking for that special someone. They are only seeking an unattainable dream (and hopefully that dream is not the neighbor's wife). Stop comparing what you want to what other people have. Doing so will always lead you to feel unfulfilled. We are all individuals. When we build with another, and it's real, it will always be unique, special, and kind.

If you are serious in your quest, there are absolute basics. One is treating the other person the way you would yourself. Problems erupt when one person places the other person on a pedestal. For example, when a guy allows a girl to holler at him in public when he would never act this way towards her. If he does not complain because he thinks he might lose her, this is the beginning of a problem. In contrast, if both people are hollering at each other in the company of others and are both happy with it, as strange as it seems, it could be a match made in heaven.

It helps that one first understands and is at peace with oneself. The old saying, "How can you love someone else if you do not first love yourself," will always stand true. But since none of us have the patience to wait forty to fifty years, obtaining the wisdom of a monk, before we start a relationship, let us move on to reality.
