PRECIOUS MEMORIES is filled with inspirational stories and memorable photographs that take you to the place lovingly known as ‘The Castle on the Hill.” Alumni who hold the High School of Music & Art dear to their hearts, contributed all stories and pictures as they continue to celebrate those wonderful years.
Each alumnus has their own special story about what occurred that day involving teachers and assisting staff. What is similar is the way the audition, in general, was handled. There were standards that had to be met but there was also an open-mindedness that young talent had to be looked at on an individualized basis. Experience those auditions in the words of its alumni. This book is so much fun to read; the stories are little moments of young people's lives, who are aspiring to be greater than they are with music or art; wanting to be part of a most special gift - the talent to express themselves through artistry. The High School of Music and Art had such an intriguing reputation, and lived up to that in every way and more. Lloyd's book allows the reader to really comprehend each individual's desire and passion to experience being a student at Music and Art High School in the 1960's and 70's! It was a blessing!

For those of us of a certain age who went to Music and Art HS before it merged into La Guardia HS those memories are very strong. This book is a snap shot of stories of our entrance exams from those who went to the school in the 1960's and 70's. The stresses of applying and the thrill of acceptance. There are also photos of the old "castle" building taken a bit more recently. A nice trip down memory lane.
