‘Torn Asunder,’ at Luna Stage, tells wrenching story of slaves before, during and after Civil War
(
In Honor of Black History Month, and my darling daughter, Kara Green)

Kara Green Torn Asunder
Brittany Davis, left, and Kara Green co-star as slaves freed by the Civil War in “Torn Asunder” at Luna Stage in West Orange.

Excerpt from review by Jay Lustig, of NJ Arts.net -
"The intensity of the acting (especially Green’s portrayal of Hannah) gives Salter’s heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting story all the firepower it needs."

Horror movies were my favorite flicks as I grew up in Manhattan, N.Y.  From Harlem theaters to the movie houses of Times Square, I'd come home scared but always excited. It was difficult not to have favorites. The following are my  scariest horror movie moments from the 1950s, 1960s & 1970s.

My Reflections - The Crawling Eye

My Reflections

I was ten years old when I watched "The Crawling Eye" on the family's black and white television. The 1958 horror flick starring Forrest Tucker had too much dialog and not enough scare, but the movie's beginning caught me off guard when a follow-mountain climber screamed out to another about their fallen friend. "His head! It's been torn off." The climbers never saw the body, but the suggested image seared into my brain would stay there for days.

The Eye Monster

When the monster finally crawled up the cloud-covered mountainside, it, at first, was not frightening. But as it crept closer to where I sat in the living room, the octopus-like creature's bulging, veiny head held that ever-shifting eye. All this was against the blood-chilling background music. It was a short scene, but the eyeball was memorable. Not my worst scare, but definitely an uncomfortable one. Did anyone else experience this?

On Feb. 11, 2022, the movie "MARRY ME!" was released and movie-goers got their first look at the rising actress (and my darling daughter) Kara F. Green. In her own words, Kara says:

"Romantic comedies have held a special place in my heart ever since I was a little girl and I'm eternally grateful to have made my feature film debut in the beautiful film Marry Me! Excellent direction by Kat Coiro and nuanced performances by JLo, Owen Wilson and Maluma. Check it out in theaters NOW and streaming on Peacock tv. LOVE wins every time."

Watch for Kara as the ticket attendant who converses with JLo at JFK airport.
